Can I use chlorine in my PVC ice bath for disinfection?Updated 9 months ago

Using chlorine in a PVC ice bath is not recommended for long-term use, as chlorine is a strong oxidising agent that can degrade PVC over time. Prolonged exposure to chlorine, especially in high concentrations, can lead to brittleness, discolouration, and eventual failure of the PVC material.

A good alternative to chlorine is bromine. Bromine is less aggressive towards PVC and is commonly used in hot tubs and pools as a disinfectant. It is effective at killing bacteria and algae while being gentler on surfaces and equipment. Although bromine can be more expensive than chlorine and has a distinct smell, it provides a safer option for maintaining the cleanliness of your PVC ice bath without causing significant damage. Always use bromine in appropriate concentrations and regularly rinse and clean the PVC ice bath to ensure its longevity.
